Hype-A-Thon Readathon Month #1: Standalone September

Hey everyone!

I have exciting news to share! There will be a (at least) one year long Readathon taking place and I am one of the hosts! Eeeeek! Exciting, or what?! I’ll tell you how this came about. A couple days ago I saw lots of people tweeting “How many popular books have you read?”, and their responses to a list you could get if you responded to them. I did, and had to realise that I wasn’t very up to date with the currently hyped books. Sure, I have heard of them, but there was only one book (or series) on the list that I have read.

The problem is, as a bookblogger I obviously want to know what’s on the market at the moment, what new books are great and which aren’t worth the hype, but… I also often lose interest in books (or anything, really), that is in the centre of attention at the moment – it’s as if something in me is refusing to pick up a book that’s super hyped. It took me like 20 years to get to Harry Potter, lol.

Anyway, so I tweeted this (very shocking) tweet and got a response from the very lovely Ellie (@ReadtoRamble), who asked me for the list. As it turned out, Ellie hasn’t read many of the books either. We were chatting for a while and agreed that it would be awesome to be able to take part in all the discussions and fangirl with others on Twitter, despite the slight aversion we both feel towards picking up the hyped books (she does too! I’m not alone!). And we came up with an idea…

What we are going to do is pick a special theme for each month to come – this month will be “Standalone September” – and try to pick some of the ultimate popular books out there that we never got to read! And we would love if you would join us! You can read along with us or pick some other books that suit the theme, so that we all have a common ground in the end. Ellie and I noticed that quite many people were replying with nos to that tweet, much more than we were expecting, so there must be more of us out there!

At the end of each month, there will be a special blog post dedicated to how the month went, but there will also be updates on the “Hype-a-thon” Twitter account we created. If you want to stay up to date, click here and follow us! We would love to hear about the books you picked, let us know! 🙂 For all your tweets, you can use the hashtag #hypeathonreadathon so we can find the tweets more easily!

Here’s also Ellie’s and my personal Twitter accounts. (There will be updates on IG too!)

We would love to hear from you. I’m really really excited for this, and I know Ellie is too. We hope you join in on the fun! Let us know!

xoxo

Noly

  1. What an awesome idea, Noly! There were a lot on that Twitter list that I didn’t read either (and also had never heard of before so it’s like, was it really hyped?!) Haha I would be keen to join in but I always over commit to these things and end up getting flustered! HA. If anything I’ll go as I please with the challenges/prompts but would 100% support 🙂 Happy reading!

    1. Thank you so much, Dini!! I hadn’t heard of many of them either so hopefully that changes with the readathon lol. Let us know which books you’ll read if you read along!

  2. I love this idea!! I did actually read more of the hyped books than I thought (on that list) probably due to all the readathons I took part in lately.
But I definitely still have a lot to catch up with so I’d love to join!

  3. This is awesome. I am interested in following along and reading a couple as I always overcommit. Where is this list? I definitely want to check it out.

    1. Hi Carla, thanks so much for your comment! To stay up to date it would be easiest to follow us on the Twitter account we created (it’s linked in the post), as we will post any updates on there. For Standalone September we decided to go with the Rainbow Rowell novels Fangirl, Eleanor & Park and Carry On, and if we manage also The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. But you can pick any hyped standalone novel(s) you feel like you should have read already but didn’t get to yet. Let us know how it goes 🙂

  4. I don’t have Twitter anymore, I deactivated it for personal reasons and it ate up too much of my time. Would you be able to DM the list on Instagram? I’m curious! 😀
