Book Tag: Book Blogger Confessions!

I was tagged by the wonderful PrincessofPages to do this fun book tag and reveal some of my bookish secrets, opinions, and habits – thanks so much for tagging me!

The Rules:

1. Answer the questions truthfully.
2. Tag five book bloggers to answer these questions next.

Without further ado, let’s dive straight into it!

1. Which book did you most recently DNF?

Hm, I really have to think about this one because I usually try to finish every book I’m starting. The last one that almost made me DNF was Abducted Hope by Tracy Renee Wolfe. I read the prologue and was a bit…put off, I guess, by how we were thrown into space, literally, and had to connect with aliens without a proper introduction. I had the strong urge to keep going though, because I hate to DNF, so I gave the book another try after a couple of days, and absolutely fell in love with it, mostly because it turned out to be much different from what I had expected. This is one of the reasons I usually don’t like to DNF – what if I’m missing out on something incredible like this???

2. What book is your guilty pleasure?

I love books with a good dose of romance. I wouldn’t really consider any of my books a ‘guilty pleasure’ though, because I don’t feel guilty reading them lol. I would say books that don’t really have that much of a surprise ending, where you know from the beginning how they will end but love to read them regardless – and I love them exactly because of that – those could be considered my guilty pleasure reads.

3. Which book would you throw into the sea?

I would never throw any book into the sea, but if I had to name one I would say Uprooted by Naomi Novik. This book has gotten so much great response and so many five star reviews, but now after reading it, I just don’t get the appeal. I mean, I had such high hopes because of the blurb and that gorgeous cover (AND the great reviews), but the story didn’t live up to my expectations at all, sadly…

4. Which book have you read the most?

Thinking about this, I would probably say the Twilight series. My friend recommended the books to me when we were teenagers and I thought they didn’t sound like my kinds of books at all, but she seemed so excited that I didn’t want to disappoint her. My plan was to borrow the first instalment from her, keep it for a few weeks, read the beginning and the ending, and – surely she would ask questions – read some summary of it online (lol – we still talk about this to this day!), but then act like it wasn’t really my kind of book. When I then started reading it however, it was so different from what I had expected and I absolutely fell in love with it, and bought New Moon a couple of days later because I just couldn’t wait to find out how the story would continue (and I’ve reread the entire series several times ever since)!

5. Which book would you hate to receive as a present?

Hmmm, this is a hard one! I thought I would say nonfiction, but then again, I really like to read one of those every once in a while, but usually don’t buy them for myself. However, there are also some topics that don’t interest me at all, which would be politics or something like that. A fiction I wouldn’t be to keen to read would be a modern thriller I guess (though I do like a good detective fiction like Sherlock Holmes).

6. Which book could you not live without?

I couldn’t live without books in general, but to name something, it would have to be the ACOTAR series by Sarah J. Maas. I’m SO glad said friend from the Twilight story also recommended this series to me, because saying I’m in love with it is a stark understatement – it’s so amazing!

7. Which book made you the angriest?

I didn’t really like Mockingjay, the third instalment of the Hunger Games series. It was too gloomy for my taste (and trust me, I know it’s supposed to be dark) and didn’t really end like I would have wished, so I guess it’s this one.

8. Which book made you cry the most?

Probably Looking for Alaska by John Green. Trust him to make you cry lol. An amazing book, very deep, but you probably won’t finish it without shedding at least some tears. I refused to read The Fault in our Stars because of that, as I can’t handle sad books too well…

9. Which book cover do you hate the most?

I really, really love judging books by their cover, even though I know you shouldn’t. But it’s the first thing you see, and who wouldn’t go for a pretty cover first? But obviously, I also read and buy books with covers I don’t really like as much, because clearly the story is so much more important. I don’t really like my version of Sophia’s Secret by Susanna Kearsley. I bought it after I had read The Rose Garden by the same author and absolutely loved it, and the blurb of Sophia’s Secret also appealed to me a lot, so I obviously had to have it! However, the cover is really… meh, in my opinion. I wouldn’t say I hate it,  but it looks quite unrealistic and strange if you ask me… See for yourself:

  1. This was such a fun tag to read – I loved your answers! I’m the same when it comes to DNF’ing a book. I absolutely hate to do it because I might just not be feeling it at that moment. I always try to go back to the ones I DNF as well. I can see what you mean about the cover of Sophia’s Secret. It’s definitely not the type of cover that would make me want to pick the book up that’s for sure. It’s hard to not judge a book by its cover. It’s like you said, it’s the first thing you see and first impressions are incredibly important.

    1. Right? You could miss out on such a great story just because you didn’t feel it at the moment! Sometimes I even go back to a book years after and find that I suddenly really want to read it! Lol, thanks a lot for agreeing with me – the cover does look a bit…strange, doesn’t it?! 😀 Thanks so much for your comment! <3

    1. Right, he really does! 😀 However, have you read Let it Snow by John Green, Lauren MMyracle, and Maureen Johnson? It’s a wintery / holiday read and there’s nothing to cry about lol – it’s one of my favorites!!

  2. Love this post! Got to know your better! 🙂 Confession from me : never read a John Green before…just not my type I guess 😅 OK will work on my response soon! Thanks again for tagging me and thinking of me 😘

    1. Thanks so much Jee!! Well not every book is for everyone I guess! 😉 Yay, looking forward to reading your post soon! 🙂

  3. Thanks for tagging Noly! This is such a fun tag to read! Also, don’t read TFIOS if you can’t handle sad books.. I’ll have you know that I had to take a few minutes to just cry because I couldn’t read anymore. Haha.

    1. Omg, that’s awful!!! I really don’t think I could handle that… So I’ll definitely be staying away from that book 😀 Looking forward to your post! xxx
