#BlogTour Book Review: The Winter We Met by Samantha Tonge

My dear bookish friends!

It’s time for another cosy, wintery, and Christmassy book recommendation on my blog today! The Winter We Met is the perfect read to curl up by the fire (or just on the sofa) with, with a hot chocolate or tea and some biscuits by your side, and to forget the outside world for a few hours. This is the kind of feel-good book that makes you happy on dreary and dark rainy days, the kind that makes your heart feel all warm and content.

Big thanks to Aria, their lovely team member Victoria Joss, Netgalley, and the author of this beautiful book, Samantha Tonge, for my ecopy! I can’t wait to share my thoughts with you!

When charming, mysterious, Nik sits next to Jess on a plane home from a Christmas toy trade fair, she never could have imagined the impact he’d have on her life. As they touch down in London, Jess is hesitant to let Nik walk away, and before she knows it, she’s invited him to visit.
As the two take in the delights of the toy store where she works, Jess gets an upsetting phone call. Willow Court, her Grandmother’s care home, is to close before Christmas. With the help of Nik, and her best friend Oliver, Jess is determined to find the perfect new home for her Gran – and throw the best Christmas party Willow Court has ever seen!
But time is running out and Oliver isn’t the only one who has suspicions about charismatic Nik’s intentions. Will a chance encounter on an aeroplane bring love to Jess’s life or is this Christmas miracle too good to be true?
My Review

I was so excited to read this book, the second I had laid my eyes upon this gorgeous cover! If it doesn’t ooze cosyness, warmth, and festive love then I don’t know what does! I raced through this book in a day. From the first page on I was hooked on Jess’s story. She meets Nik on a flight back home to England from a toy fair in Germany. This beginning reminded me a bit of a Sophie Kinsella book and I was in love already.

Jess is such a loveable character, I felt like she would be an amazing friend. She works in a toy shop – what could me more festive than that? And I loved that in this shop the staff really cares about the customers and their wishes and needs – it’s not like they want to sell things just to sell.

It was a huge coincidence that Nik is in the same business, of course. When they met on the plane they obviously instantly bonded. It made me smile when we learned that Nik is in the toy business too, but this is a romance, a feel-good book that makes you happy. So I didn’t mind this too-good-to-be-true coincidence.

Nik is a wonderful character too. He’s from Australia and I was so happy when he decided to visit Jess’s toy shop and not wait at the airport. However, I also really liked Oliver, Jess’s best friend. He helps her when she gets a worrying phone call from her grandmother, whose care home will be shut down and turned into a five star hotel. Her grandmother loves seeing Oliver and Jess together, but I also couldn’t get enough of her and Nic. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to find out which direction the story might go!

Jess loves her grandmother, and I loved seeing their special bond. Upon hearing the sad news of the shut-down of her granny’s beloved care home, Jess decides to throw a huge Christmas party for all the elderly. I also loved meeting the other residents there. They all have their own special quirks, and it was nice seeing how they supported each other.

This heart-warming, cosy feel-good read is perfect for this time of year. I loved it from beginning to end, and can only recommend it to everyone who loves a good romance and festive read! Definitely a 5 star read for me!

Thank you so much for reading!

xoxo
